Tintagel, Keynsham
No neighbourhood left behind – a unique opportunity to regenerate the 1960s four-storey estate at Tintagel Close, its surrounding and the adjacent Kelston Park has planning approval in place and, following legal clearance, is advancing to the next stage of construction. The scheme received widespread stakeholder and public support. Extensive LPA workshops and stakeholder events-built trust, which enabled the application to be determined more smoothly).
Centered around Curo’s core value, ‘Homes for Good,’ the scheme delivers 45 highly sustainable, 100 per cent affordable homes, alongside significant enhancements to Kelston Park, highlighting the vital role of nature in community well-being.
Mukhtar Ali, Senior Development Manager at Curo:
“Our basic aim is to replace the 44 dwellings with energy efficient, affordable homes in line with our Design Code. The new homes will meet a wide range of housing need as they range from 1-4 bedrooms for social rent and shared ownership. The public space is equally important as the homes so the wider neighbourhood can benefit as well as the new residents. Achieving this will help create a more sustainable community”.
Sebastian Baran, Project Design Lead at Place By Design:
“Curo has been committed to look beyond redline, foster sense of ownership and support affordability of future residents. With such brief we were able to shape the design that is well-integrated, gives residents flexibility (wheelchair adaptable house and flats, all going beyond NDSS), and a genuine sense of pride—celebrating a community we had the privilege to engage with throughout a truly rewarding consultation journey. The early involvement of contractor EG Carter—a rare but powerful collaboration—was instrumental in today’s challenging climate. It ensured that every design ambition was fully costed from the outset, enabling the seamless delivery of much-needed affordable homes, with no compromises and no delays”.
Alex Marles, Project Procurement Manager at EG Carter said:
“We worked closely with Place By Design and other key Designers, Consultants and Client as part of the Project Group from conception stage to preparation of final plans forming the approved scheme.
We were able to contribute to design progression, with a focus on cost efficiency and energy performance to ensure deliverability of a viable scheme meeting demanding energy standards that attain best value for end residents whilst upholding the schemes key design principles and social objectives. This collaborative approach has allowed for a practical response to the key budgetary requirements for the construction phase of the project”.
PBD inspires an environmentally conscious future with lasting beauty, and we are excited to see this unique transformation progress to the construction stage.
